Obituary for Mary C. Greenfield

ILION – Mary C. (McKenna) Greenfield, age 87, of 188 Prospect Ave., Ilion, died on Monday, December 19, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.

She was born on February 17, 1924, in Ilion, the daughter of James and Julia (McCoy) McKenna, and was a 1941 graduate of Ilion High School. On October 9, 1954, she was married to Vincent S. “Vince” Greenfield at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. He passed away on October 23, 1999. Mrs. Greenfield was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. In her early years, she worked in the Dietary Dept. at Ilion High School. She later was employed in the Powder Metal Dept. at Remington Arms Co., Ilion, for six years. Mary was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother. At one time, she enjoyed reading and sewing. Her life was centered around her beloved family. Also, she was an avid N.E. Patriots fan and loved Tom Brady.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Vivian Greenfield, of Ilion; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia “Pat” and Gerald Leary, of ME; five cherished grandchildren, Megan, Sam and Paul Greenfield, of Ilion, and Lauren Twomey and McKayla Leary, of ME; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, John and Nira McKenna, of New Hartford, and Edward and Dorothy McKenna, of Mohawk; one sister, Joann Joy, of Ilion; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Richard Greenfield, of Herkimer, Eleanor Greenfield, of GA,
and Marilyn Dolye, of New Hartford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY, and 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, Pastor, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, N. Ilion.

Calling hours are Wednesday, December 21, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Ilion Ambulance Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

The Greenfield family has entrusted all funeral and burial arrangements to their family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
